10th May 2009 - What is God doing in your heart?Sermon Notes 10/05/09 Speaker: Sis Helen Title: What is God doing in your heart? Text: There are several things God does in our hearts. He could be: -Knocking on the door of our hearts. -Cleaning out the rubbish (even those that no one sees). -Challenging us. -Reviewing our hearts. Man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart, He searches the heart and examines the mind – 1 Sam 16:7 & Jeremiah 17:10. Only God knows what is going on in the hearts and minds of individuals. God knows everybody’s heart (Acts 1:24), sees the depths of our hearts and loves us all the same. God loves us imperfect and desires that we move on from there and perfect us. Our hearts are God’s “Grand Designs”, where others may see ruins, He sees us finished, overflowing with beauty and goodness. Eph 2:10 describes us as God’s ‘workmanship’ and our God is the perfect builder who will complete the job and do it on time (Phil 1:6)! However, we must cooperate with Him; we must get on board with what He wants to do, with His plans for our hearts. We need to find out what God is doing in our hearts and run with it. We also need to identify obstacles to us doing this. Obstacles may be: 1. Fear – we may be afraid that when He takes out of our hearts the things that we are accustomed to, our lives will fall apart. Remember, HE is the master builder, we should not be afraid. God will support us while He removes those things that should not anchor or be pillars in our lives. 2. Impatience – We need to allow God to finish one job and not rush out and start another. 3. Disobedience – John 14:15, 23. If we disobey, God cannot live in our hearts and do His work. 4. Life problems – Instead of being obstacles, God can use life’s problems. When we cling to Jesus, He can work through life’s storms (Matt 14:23-31, Psalm 139). In 1 Sam 10:6, we discover that when we walk with God, we can be transformed. God wants to do something in our hearts. God wants our hearts! God wants YOUR heart! |
