Where does sickness come from? · The fall of man; as a consequence of the fall man became susceptible to sickness (Genesis 2:16-17, 3:19) · The curse; as a result of disobedience to God’s commandments (Deuteronomy 28:21-28) · Satan’s direct attack; (Job 2:7) · Spirits of infirmity; the woman that was bent over with the spirit of infirmity (Luke 13:10),
The purpose of sickness Sickness and disease are used by the devil to steal (our time, joy, resources), kill and destroy. However, our Lord Jesus came to destroy the works of satan and to give us life in its fullness (John 10:10; I John 3:8b)
God’s will to heal God has demonstrated not only His ability to heal diseases but also His willingness to do the same. Jesus was specially anointed by God to heal all who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38) Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law and the sickness associated with it (Galatians 3:13-14) Jesus came to save men’s lives (Luke 9:56) ‘To save’ comes from the Greek word ‘sozo’ which means deliverance, blessing, salvation, healing and to make well. Salvation and healing were provided by Jesus (Isaiah 53:4-6)
God’s solution for sickness · Sin and death came from Adam eating from the tree of good and evil but salvation comes from Jesus hanging on a tree (Romans 5:12, I Peter 2:24a) · Bitter waters were made sweet (Exodus 15:22-26) · Forgiveness and healing are part of His benefits (Psalm 103: 2-3) · Healing was directly connected to sacrifice (Leviticus 14:4-7)
Healing from God’s heart We can draw insights from the Old testament about God’s heart to heal. The Israelites ate the Passover lamb and were spared the plague (Exodus 12: 1-13) When they sinned and were bitten by snakes, God instructed Moses to set a bronze serpent on a pole and whoever looked at it lived (Numbers 21:4-9) Isaiah, the prophet foretold of the healing that would be provided by Jesus (Isaiah 53:5) and Peter, the apostle confirmed the provision of healing had taken place (I Peter 2:24b) God anointed Jesus with His Spirit without measure so that healing could be effected (Luke 4:18-19)
Receiving healing Our healing has already been provided for by Jesus when he died on the cross. In receiving healing, we have to · Be expectant · Right motive · Saturate yourself with divine healing truth; for faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17) · Stay in fellowship with the Holy Spirit (Leviticus 14:17-18) · Receive your healing; there are various ways or points of contact. It could be through the spoken word, laying on of hands, anointing oil etc. |
