Text: Matthew 28:19-20
Purpose 5: Made for a mission
Every believer has a ministry and has been called to a mission. We are sent as representatives of Christ (John ) As ministers, our function is to introduce people to God (II Corinthians ) This is part of God’s purpose for us (Luke -49)
Importance of mission
· We are to continue the work of Christ. While He was on earth, He reconciled men to God.
· The Great Commission is a command (Matthew 28:19-20, Ezekiel )
· It is a wonderful privilege (I Corinthians ) We are called to be God’s fellow workers. He reconciled us through Christ and has committed the ministry of reconciliation to us.
· It is the greatest gift we can offer as it has eternal consequences.
· It gives our life meaning (Acts )
· It is connected to God’s end time timetable (Matthew 24:14)
· It is not something that can be postponed. We must do the work of God while we have the opportunity (John 9:4)
The Cost of mission
· Our own agenda (Romans )
· Accept God’s agenda (Luke 22:42b)
· Delight in what God cares about. He cares about the lost (II Peter 3:9)
· Beware of Satan’s distraction
· Realise that the time is limited
What do you have to do?
Our mission fields include;
·
·
·
· World (international)
We have got our story (talents, experiences, testimonies, spiritual gifts, family) and God’s story (Good news, Holy Spirit, the Church). We need to partner with Jesus in telling both stories. We can pray, give and serve.
